Don't Let Alzheimer's be your Destiny
Decide to start your journey to a healthier, happier you.

Let's talk a little about Alzheimer's Disease (AD). I've read about this subject a lot, and here's what I'm reading. The number of people with AD is expected to double by 2050. I'll probably be dead by then, but the fact is, AD starts decades before you see the classic symptoms.
Depression is something that all of us experience from time to time and it's the most expensive medical illness in the world. I mention this because depression is a major risk factor for AD. Another huge factor is obesity. Two thirds of Americans are overweight and one third are obese. It is the third leading cause of death and not only is it a risk factor for AD, but for 30+ other diseases, including depression. And to top the high-risk list is diabetes. A person with diabetes has twice the risk of developing AD than someone who doesn’t have it. Other risk factors that loom high are stress, disrupted sleep, brain damage from drugs, alcohol, ultra processed foods, and traumatic brain injury.
You may be genetically predisposed to AD, but it doesn’t mean you’re doomed to get it. Environmental triggers are more important than your gene structure. The area of study around this is called epigenetics. The way you think, how much water your drink, the type of food you eat, the quantity and quality of your sleep, how much, how often, and what type of exercise you do, whether you played football or boxed as a kid all play a part in whether you are marching down the road to AD. The good news is, you can reverse the damage you’ve already done, and you can prevent more damage from occurring. As an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach I can help you with this.
